In 1931, Lufthansa and the Chinese Eurasia Aviation Corporation founded an airline with the aim of connecting the two continents of Europe and Asia. The Junkers W33 and JU52 aircraft were used, the safest and most comfortable airplanes in the world at the time. The first flights were real adventures. Flights from Berlin to Shanghai took 6 days, there were no precise maps and no detailed weather reports. Landings and take-offs were mostly on unpaved runways. When planes sank into the ground, they were pulled out by oxen. Petrol was transported to airfields by camel. At least some inner-Chinese routes were successfully established. On May 31, 1931, operations began on the Shanghai-Nanjing-Peking-Manjur route.
